Waitaha Whetū Hikoi features the sounds and rhythms of the Taonga Pūoro collective Kiki Pounamu. Featuring grammy award winning soloist Pūoro Jerome, producer DJ and radio host Gabriel Messenjah Calcott (Atawhai), talented visual artist and creator of Ngā Taonga Pūoro ~ Rua Pick and traditional Kaimirimiri, Kairongoa practitioner Chelita Kahutianui Zainey (Poutokumanawa).
Waitaha Whetū Hikoi is a culmination of a years journeying re connecting and re imagining the ancient song lines of Te Wai Pounamu,
and a coming together of a group of people that honour and walk the old trails of Waitaha. Ngā Taonga Pūoro, the singing treasures featured on the album are Kōauau, Pōrutu, Pūpakapaka, Pūtatara, Pūkaea, Pūmotomoto, Pūtōrino, Roria, Ku, Poi Awhiowhio, Tumutumu Tohorā, Haungungu, Rehu, Pūrerehua, Porotiti & Nguru. Piri mai draw closer, kake mai climb onto our waka, haere mai welcome aboard.
